The Vancouver Rose Society and Canadian Rose Society are proud to host the 15th World Rose Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada taking place from June 18-24, 2009 at the Westin Bayshore Hotel.
We are also very pleased that our neighbours to the south, the United States of America, will be joining us as they hold the American Rose Society’s Spring/Summer Convention in Vancouver at the same time as the World Convention. This pairing of conventions will allow more people from the U.S.A. to enjoy a World Convention without having to opt for one convention over the other.
We INVITE THE WORLD to our fair city to engage in a week of social activities revolving around lectures, tours and evening events as well as the natural camaraderie that surrounds a convention. New lifelong friendships are a result of bringing rose lovers together from around the world. We also invite everyone to extend their stay in beautiful British Columbia by enjoying memorable, one-of-a-kind pre and post convention tours.
As co-chairs of this event, we will be working with a dedicated committee of people who will ensure this convention is one we will all remember for many years. We will also work with a convention planning company who will help us present an even more polished event.
As an added bonus to our week-long convention, we plan to hold a unique three-day Rose Festival to celebrate The Rose with the general public. This Festival will be free admittance to convention delegates and will be held on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, June 19, 20, and 21. Our spectacular Rose Show will be the highlight of this Festival along with an abundance of rose and garden displays, exhibits, plant and accessory sales, artwork and photography as well as educational workshops led by local experts.
All in all, we plan to celebrate The Rose with the world, with local British Columbians, and with Americans. What better way to combine all the knowledge of world rosarians with our local experts in a sharing of minds!
Once again…welcome to beautiful Vancouver and to our website. Please take advantage of the many links that will entice you further to visit our wonderful city.
Rosy regards,

Darlene Sanders and Brenda Viney
2009 World Rose Convention Committee Co-Chairs
As President of the Vancouver Rose Society, I’m happy to extend a warm West-Coast welcome to Rosarians from around the world. The Vancouver Rose Society has been busily preparing for this event since 2002, and is looking forward to creating a very enjoyable and successful Convention experience for everyone.
Vancouver is of course, in our eyes, one of the “best places on Earth” (to steal a BC Tourism slogan), for its spectacular setting, mild climate, and gardening possibilities. It’s the kind of place where Rosarians can pursue their passion for all but the tenderest of rose varieties, and even those can be nurtured with a little creative “zonal denial.”
So, we hope you will come visit our little corner of the big world of Roses, enjoy our Convention and Festival, and take back with you fond memories of your new best friends from the Vancouver Rose Society!
Dale Akerstrom
President, Vancouver Rose Society
Bienvenue. Welcome.
The Canadian Rose Society is proud to welcome rosarians from around the world to the convention and festival of the World Federation of Rose Societies. The Vancouver Rose Society has worked extremely hard to produce an event that will be of interest to the world.
Canada is not only rich in diverse cultures, but our climate varies from the harshest, zone 0 through temperate zone 8. This range has given Canadian rose hybridizers the challenge of producing hardy roses, capable of thriving in the toughest climates. While Morden's Explorer roses are well known, we are proud of our over 80 breeders who have contributed everything from miniatures to climbers. The Canadian Rose Society looks forward to answering your rose inquiries. Please feel free to visit us through our web site at www.canadianrosesociety.org.
One of Canada's crown jewels for gardens is Vancouver and the surrounding area. June is a prime time to see the range of roses grown in this beautiful province. With the Rose Festival, Convention, and pre and post convention tours, you will be guaranteed the 'Royal' treatment.
We look forward to meeting each and every one of you.
With rosy thoughts.
Sincerely,
Shari-Lyn Safir,
President, CRS
